Benefits of Tea (Black & Green) drink it without milk

Tea contains many active ingredients (Flavonoid,Caffeine,Theophylline & Theobromine) which have many health benefits like antioxidants, anticancer and various other properties, but usually people drink it for pleasure, not for its health benefits. Many people have the habit of adding  milk & sugar to tea to enhance the taste of tea but researchers have indicated that even a drop of milk can completely  destroy all the health benefits of  Tea.

If you want to enjoy tea with its all its benefits, drink it without adding milk or sugar since milk appears to modify the biological activities of tea ingredients. Flavonoid in tea are responsible for its beneficial effects on heart & in the prevention of cancer. Various studies have postulated that a group of proteins in milk, called casein interacts with the catechins and other flavonoids to reduce the concentration of flavonoids resulting in reduction of all health benfits of tea.

Chemical Compound of Tea-

Tea contains Caffeine,Thepphylline,Theobromine,Polyphenols(Flavonoids) & other organic compounds (in which Flavonoids are most important active compounds). Within the flavonoid group, Flavanols (Tannins) are most prevalent. The major flavanols are:-
Catechin,Epicatechin,Epicatechin Gallate(ECG),Epigallocatechin(EGC) & Epigallocatechin Gallate(EGCG). EGCG is most active of these catechins and all Catechins act as antioxidants.

Benefit-

1. Antioxidants: Polyphenols protect cell damage from free radicals like-oxygen and oxides of nitrogenand is notable for keeping the DNA damage associated with tobacco or other toxic chemicals.

2. Better Heart:  Tea may reduce risk of heart attack & stroke by keeping your arteries smooth & clog-free(plaque formation). It also reduce the blood bad cholesterol level.

3. Cancer Prevention: Polyphenols & Catechins may help in preventing  some types of cancer. Women who drink black tea regularly have a lower chance of ovarian cancer.

4. Healthy Bones: It has also been suggested that regular tea drinkers have stronger bones & reduce a rick of  arthritis.

5. Lower Risk of Diabetes: Drinking tea(with fengureek) may help protect against Type-2 diabetes.

6.  Wight Loss: Green tea may help with weight loss by increasing metabolic rate(Speed up fat oxidation/breakdown).

7. Better Immune System: Tea contain alkyamine antigen that helps in  boosting our immune response. In addition it also contains tannins that have the ability to fight viruses resulting in protection from various viral infections like Flu and others.

8. Stress Relief: Tea has shown results which indicate reduction in stress hormone (cortisol) levels . It also contain amino acid L-theanine which can help you relax and concentrate (equivalent ot boost in endorphin levels in blood).

9. Increased Energy:Tea contain caffeine in low concentrations which can help enhanced blood flow to the brain without over stimulating the heart.

Types:-

Both green tea and black tea come from the leaves of the plant "Camellia Sinensis" but different processing techniques (leaves undergo to make the final tea) result in different forms of tea. The leaves for black tea are fully oxidized while those for green teas are lightly steamed before being dried. The processing of green & black teas are given below:-

Green Tea-

Camellia Sinensis ----Partial Withering----Steaming(Japanese style)/pan-firing (Chinese style)----Rolling and Drying---- Final Firing----Green Tea(non-oxidized).

Black Tea-

Camellia Sinensis----Indoor Withering----Rolling----Oxidation(Fermentation)
----Final Firing----Black Tea (Oxidized).

Black & Green tea both contain similar amount of Flavonoids called Catechins however they differ in their chemical structure . Green tea contains simple flavonoids called Catechins while in black teas, these flavonoids get converted into more complex forms  (due to oxidation process that makes black tea) of Polyphenols likes Theaflavins & Thearubigins.
